14:51 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Wow. Cool loudspeaker |
14:51 |
Phrynne |
Where is it going to go? |
14:52 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
They are slightly primmy, but a gift from Fire Brono. Up at 4000m, one for each parcel to set the audio streams from a central interface. |
14:53 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I replaced the ones Ravelli had, that used the old URL and weren't current with the parcels. |
14:53 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Mesh? |
14:53 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I think prims. |
14:54 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
at least partly. |
14:54 |
Gronk Seriman |
Ooo! A Three Dean Night already! |
14:54 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Could you rez it again and let me look? |
14:55 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Sure. |
14:55 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Thank you |
14:55 |
Carl Metropolitan |
All prim and sculpt |
14:56 |
Gronk Seriman |
Wow! What is that? Looks like a PA system from Heck. |
14:56 |
Carl Metropolitan |
We can afford five extra prims I would think? |
14:56 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I may rework it later into mesh |
14:56 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
5x9 parcels. |
14:56 |
Phrynne |
We can certainly afford five prims, or 45 prims. Or 400 prims. |
14:57 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
If it became an issue at some future point, we can do something, but the thing is so attractive .... |
14:58 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
We were chatting about how to represent an audio stream setter, Rainy suggested a megaphone, and next thing Fire had prototyped this. |
14:58 |
Phrynne |
I think it's really cool |
14:58 |
Gronk Seriman |
It |
14:59 |
Gronk Seriman |
It IS an attention getter. |
14:59 |
Phrynne |
A bunch of them at 4000 feet will look a bit spooky |
14:59 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And, I could bring them down lower. |
14:59 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I am wondering with the four curved surfaces of bullhorns and the blades if you could actually mesh it into lower LI |
15:00 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Since they are attractive. |
15:00 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I expect that I can Carl. |
15:00 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I forget you have Blender skills far beyond mortal men sometimes :) |
15:00 |
Fire Broono |
Afternnon folks. |
15:00 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
For now though, we have something like 1700 free prims. |
15:00 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Hello Fire |
15:00 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Hello Eva |
15:01 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Hi Fire. |
15:01 |
Eva Gaelle (jucastt) |
hello Carl, Good afternoon |
15:01 |
Eva Gaelle (jucastt) |
good afternoon everyone |
15:01 |
leafpelt21 |
greetings |
15:01 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Don't mind the spinning propeller folks, it's perfectly safe. Perfectly. |
15:02 |
|
Fire Broono hides |
15:02 |
|
Phrynne tucks her tail well away from the spinning monster |
15:02 |
Yarrow Bumblefoot |
giggles and flicks her ears |
15:03 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Welcome to this week's Question and Answer session. |
15:03 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
This is an open meeting, all are welcome. |
15:03 |
Gronk Seriman |
I want to know the frequency range, total RMS watts.... |
15:04 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
(except for those who act in a manner to make themselves unwelcome) |
15:04 |
Kip Yellowjacket |
hmm |
15:04 |
Yarrow Bumblefoot |
tucks her flute away |
15:05 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Nothing that mild. |
15:06 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Phrynne, any report or not report comments? |
15:07 |
Phrynne |
No report from me today, sorry. Have been somewhat occupied in RL this week. |
15:07 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
RL happens. |
15:07 |
Fire Broono |
Would make a nice SL t shirt |
15:07 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Only thing I have to report is the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education exhibit is out. Didn't do much to it. Mostly reused last years. |
15:08 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Which features Martini's stained glass for the Oxbridge buildings. |
15:09 |
Fire Broono |
I love those. |
15:09 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Too beautiful not to use again in an exhibit. |
15:10 |
Carl Metropolitan |
If I still had enough RL money to afford my Museum of Resident Art, those would go in it. |
15:10 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Indeed. |
15:11 |
Fire Broono |
Do you have an LM to the Best Practises thing? |
15:12 |
Fire Broono |
practices rather |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
No. I don't. |
15:12 |
Fire Broono |
Ok. I'll find it. |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Just search for VWBPE in maps |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
But it has not started yet. |
15:12 |
Gronk Seriman |
Is there a website for the event? |
15:12 |
|
Fire Broono nods |
15:13 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It may even be closed right now. It runs March 29 – April 1. |
15:13 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
https://vwbpe.org/ |
15:13 |
Gronk Seriman |
Thank you! |
15:14 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And on FB: https://www.facebook.com/vwbpe/ |
15:14 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The speeches and presentations are usually well worth seeing if you can get away from RL a bit during the conference times. |
15:14 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And @vwbpe on Twitter. |
15:16 |
Gronk Seriman |
Is this an all SL conference, or are other worlds involved, too? |
15:16 |
Carl Metropolitan |
There is usually an opensim track too |
15:16 |
Carl Metropolitan |
And field trips to other worlds. |
15:17 |
Gronk Seriman |
Nice! |
15:17 |
lovejoy2199 |
That sounds interesting! |
15:17 |
Phrynne |
yes |
15:17 |
Sio Qwerkus (qwerkus) |
they talk about Minecraft too, in clasrooms |
15:18 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And it's generally well-staffed with volunteers to answer questions and help. |
15:20 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Okay, last week I'd cut over the scheduling to the new interface (done a while back by Tali Rosca). Apart from some tweaks I want to do on caching, that's all working. The interface also has a URL setting for the Oxbridge parcel streams. Last night, I changed the objects that control Oxbridge's audio streams, using a script that Tali also did. |
15:21 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Thanks to Fire Brono, we have something far nice than a plywood box to put over each parcel, that has an obvious symbolic connection to audio. |
15:22 |
Carl Metropolitan |
That looks so cool |
15:22 |
Gronk Seriman |
Yay, Tali! Yay, Fire! |
15:22 |
Fire Broono |
☻ |
15:23 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Right now, 9 of those are up at 4000m over Oxbridge, where the old ones were, but I may move them down where more see them. |
15:24 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And when the dawn light catches them, they glisten like fine, golden, brass. |
15:24 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Many thanks, Fire. |
15:24 |
Fire Broono |
Sure thing, glad to be able to help. |
15:25 |
Gronk Seriman |
I'm still unclear about the purpose. |
15:26 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
The other bit done was to work on the RSS feed for the Q&A transcripts. I'd been doing some unrelated text summarization scripting and put together a script to find important "lines" in the transcripts. That makes it pretty easy for me to do summaries. |
15:27 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
That's up at: http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/qna/qna_rss.xml |
15:28 |
Kip Yellowjacket |
/afk |
15:28 |
Dobidoo |
hi all :D |
15:28 |
leafpelt21 |
greetings |
15:28 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
If anyone is interested in details, look at http://cs.uccs.edu/~jkalita/papers/2011/InouyeDavidSocialComm2011.pdf |
15:29 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
That's pretty much it for me. |
15:29 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Those were automated? Wow. |
15:29 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Open for general questions (the A part of Q&A) |
15:30 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Not totally, but the script chooses 12 lines ranked as important via word frequency and not too similar to each other. |
15:30 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
It's pretty easy just to cut and paste from those. |
15:31 |
Agatha Macbeth |
Will there be any Caledon presence at SLB14? |
15:32 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Generally the same exhibit we use for VWBPE. |
15:32 |
Agatha Macbeth |
Right. Thanks |
15:33 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Any other questions or annoucements? |
15:35 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Then, let's adjourn. |
15:35 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Thanks you all for coming |
15:35 |
leafpelt21 |
thank you for holding this q&a! hope you all have a good day! |
15:35 |
Gronk Seriman |
Thank you, Deans! |
15:35 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And yes, there is something in the room we haven't talked about. |
15:36 |
|
Phrynne waves to the elephant |
15:36 |
Fire Broono |
The elephant? |
15:36 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The elephant in the room. |
15:36 |
Dobidoo |
saw it when came in here :)) |
15:36 |
Fire Broono |
What's it for? |
15:37 |
Dobidoo |
i thought i got hung over |
15:37 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
To not talk about. |
15:37 |
lovejoy2199 |
Demands equal time foe a donkey. lol |
15:37 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
(and to see if anyone notices it) |
15:37 |
lovejoy2199 |
for |
15:37 |
Phrynne |
This is a nonpolitical elephant |
15:37 |
Gronk Seriman |
If we started talking about it, it won'nt be what we are not talking about. |
15:38 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Indeed. A virtual world elephant that values reality. |
15:38 |
ShaRa Ishtar (shannonraven) |
I don't see anything in this room ... |
15:39 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Rather like meditation, Gronk. "There I am, wasn't I". |
15:39 |
Fire Broono |
Me niether, and neither do I. |
15:40 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I use the elephant sometimes during classes to see if anyone is still conscious. |
15:40 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Or in a mesh or scripting induced coma. |
15:40 |
Fire Broono |
Well in Caledon, you need more than an elephant to stand out |
15:41 |
ShaRa Ishtar (shannonraven) |
Elephant?? Which elephant? |
15:41 |
Fire Broono |
Exactly. |
15:41 |
Gronk Seriman |
African or European? |
15:42 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Hello, Orange. |
15:42 |
Phrynne |
I need to go -- and since we're adjourned, see you all later. |
15:42 |
lovejoy2199 |
Forrest African. |
15:42 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Goodnight everyone. |
15:42 |
Fire Broono |
Byes. |
15:42 |
Eva Gaelle (jucastt) |
good night, Phrynne |
