Carl Metropolitan |
Welcome to Q&A with the Deans. This is our weekly Q&A session for Caledon Oxbridge, where we keep you up to date on what's going on at Oxbridge and take your questions about Oxbridge, Caledon, and Second Life in General. Please have a seat and we will get started. |
15:04 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is just myself and Phrynne representing the Deans tonight, so our part of this will be pretty quick. Phrynne, do you have anything to report from your area? |
15:04 |
Phrynne |
I have a sort of public service announcement |
15:05 |
Phrynne |
Oxbridge is getting a bit busier because we're coming into summertime |
15:05 |
Phrynne |
And when that happens, it can be hard for staff members on the plaza to know all of what's going on in Oxbridge. |
15:06 |
Phrynne |
If someone is harassing you in IM, trying to pick you up, asking for money, saying rude or bigoted or uncomfortable things -- we will not know it unless you tell us. |
15:06 |
Phrynne |
Please, if you are being bothered in IM, send an IM to whichever staff member is there, and let that person know what is going on, so they can take care of it. |
15:07 |
Phrynne |
I realize I'm speaking to the choir here, because half of you *are* staff, but look for someone whose group tag says Oxbridge Dean, Oxbridge Professor, Oxbridge Tutor or Assistant Dean. |
15:07 |
Phrynne |
And if you ask for help from someone and the person does not help you, please contact me directly. |
15:08 |
Phrynne |
It is much easier to deal with trolls who harass people *while they're doing it* than half an hour later. |
15:08 |
Phrynne |
that's all. |
15:08 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Do you think we might want to add that to the green text people see when they arrive for the first time, Phrynne? |
15:08 |
Phrynne |
That's possible. I am writing up a notecard that can be handed out -- I'll send you a copy. |
15:09 |
|
Phrynne has been here so often she no longer sees the first-time green print |
15:09 |
Phrynne |
though I wonder if it wouldn't just overwhelm people, along with all the other text around them. |
15:10 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Good point |
15:10 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Behind me you will see a graph (created weekly by Dean Emeritus Marion Questi) showing our first day and first week attendance. |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
You may notice a rise in traffic recently. That is in part due to summer, and in part due to the fact that Oxbridge has been put into the rotation of the "Hotspots" teleporter at Linden Lab's new Social Island. |
15:12 |
Jorge Serapis |
looks fairly consistent, ie not that many people dropping out after a while. |
15:12 |
|
Phoenixflames Kukulcan is online. |
15:13 |
Carl Metropolitan |
So while we should not assume this level fo traffic is going to last (because LL) , we should also be aware of it. |

15:13 |

Social Island is now part of (or an option in) Linden Lab's new user orientation process. |
15:14 |
тαℓıηα ℜoѕє (talina718) |
Are they able to be played by none premium accounts |
15:14 |
Carl Metropolitan |
There are some very nice things about it in terms of interactive tutorials, all of which I hope to steal the ideas for :) |
15:14 |
Phrynne |
Yes, as far as I know |
15:14 |
Badass Fae (larkylouz) |
LOL. |
15:14 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. They are part of the orientation process. |
15:15 |
Phrynne |
One difference between the new Social Islands and the old Help Island is that the freebies aren't free any more -- they're 50L at Social Islands |
15:15 |
тαℓıηα ℜoѕє (talina718) |
that was a silly question to ask sorry |
15:15 |
Phrynne |
but they're also not 10 years old. |
15:15 |
Badass Fae (larkylouz) |
Talina, I'm not aware of too many things that Premium people can do that Basic folks can't. |
15:16 |
Badass Fae (larkylouz) |
I wouldn't worry about not having a Premium account. |
15:16 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Premium people get access to LL's trouble ticket support system, the ability to own land on LL's mainland continents (or to have a Linden Home), and a 300L$ per week stipend. |
15:17 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
And some nifty unbalance vehicle. At leas they used to |
15:17 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It was not a silly question. The whys and whims of Linden Lab (the owners of Second Life) are often not very easy to understand. |
15:18 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I guess since Phrynne and me are it for Deans today, we are going to move to the pure Q&A part of our program a bit early. So consider the floor open to questions. |
15:19 |
Jorge Serapis |
More of an FYI. Still waiting for Dean Lindal to pass me the files so I can start work on the translations for the foreign language kiosks. |
15:20 |
Carl Metropolitan |
