15:02 |
Tali Rosca |
Greetings. |
15:02 |
Samanthacheers |
Hello :) |
15:02 |
Tali Rosca |
Tolerans, Civilis, Innovus, Laganum. |
15:02 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Welcome All. |
15:02 |
Tali Rosca |
I'll open tonight's session by highlighting the two first virtues of the Caledonian motto: Tolerance and Civility. |
15:03 |
Tali Rosca |
The reason I mention this is because tonight is the anniversary of the Crystal Night, named so after the shards of shattered glass in the streets as a group was scapegoated and attacked. |
15:03 |
Tali Rosca |
I will not make any big or sentimental statements about it, but just point to the simple kernel of respect and dignity - for both yourself and your fellow beings - embedded in our motto. |
15:03 |
Tali Rosca |
-And the innovation and cake just makes life better. |
15:03 |
Tali Rosca |
So, on to the QA. As most of you know, each dean has an area of responsibility, as seen here: http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/qna_index.php |
15:03 |
Tali Rosca |
(That page also contains the transcripts of the sessions). |
15:04 |
Tali Rosca |
With that, who has the first question? |
15:05 |
Samanthacheers |
::looks around:: |
15:05 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Third question, then? |
15:05 |
Tali Rosca |
The second is ok too. |
15:05 |
Kerhop Seattle |
What is the meaning of life? |
15:05 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Whichone? |
15:06 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
how are the upgrades coming to th ubniversity to mesh |
15:06 |
Carl Metropolitan |

15:06 |
Martini Discovolante |
To have good Questions |
15:07 |
Tali Rosca |
I don't think we can add more about the mesh than Ravelli said last week: A good chance to put in some work is upcoming, so hopefully things will progress then. |
15:07 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
oh |
15:08 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
i made some progress this week. i have worked on the wall lamps and scripts for the Lecture Hall, and the Control Panel. that are only several small changes |
15:08 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
here you can see the wall lamps: http://ravelli.minus.com/i/PphkV0d2UtIm |
15:08 |
Samanthacheers |
::Blows nose:: |
15:09 |
Martini Discovolante |
the uplights? |
15:09 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
yes |
15:09 |
Martini Discovolante |
very nice |
15:09 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
they illuminate the pictures above |
15:09 |
Carl Metropolitan |
What is the thing in the ceiling? |
15:10 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
that will be a Kraken Lamp when it is finished |
15:10 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
made of stained glass |
15:10 |
Martini Discovolante |
when you aer taking the photos, i can actually see that :) |
15:10 |
Samanthacheers |
What exactly are we looking at? |
15:10 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Oh neat. |
15:10 |
Martini Discovolante |
the link that Dean Ormstein posted |
15:10 |
Samanthacheers |
OH |
15:10 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
we are looking at the four images at the wall and the lamps below |
15:10 |
Samanthacheers |
:D Duuurr |
15:11 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Which shows part of the new lecture hall. |
15:11 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Is the map part of the design, or just an example of how you can have a poster for lessons there? |
15:11 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
this is another view: http://ravelli.minus.com/lbvv2TqD7Juuou |
15:12 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
the map is just a placeholder, or just to keep something in my mind |
15:12 |
Larkylouz |
Quite beautiful, Ravelli. |
15:12 |
Samanthacheers |
Very. |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The entire new design looks really great. |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
How is the Land Impact? |
15:12 |
Samanthacheers |
Yes it does |
15:12 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And you'll shortly have time to get kraken on the hall. |
15:12 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
i have three floodlights at the ceiling, they light up the stage like in a theater, it looks great when the other lights are off |
15:12 |
Samanthacheers |
I am excited. |
15:13 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
i don't have the correct LI in my mind, and i still have to model the lower LODs, so everything is open here :-) |
15:14 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Oh. Good for my trivia game. |
15:14 |
Samanthacheers |
::Smiles:: |
15:14 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
the Kraken Lamp has around 39 LI, but it is far from finished |
15:14 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
the wall lamps 1 LI each, the control panel 6 LI |
15:15 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
and the Lecture Hall itself perhaps 40 LI |
15:15 |
Tali Rosca |
The lamp likely doesn't need a physics shape at all. |
15:15 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
yep |
15:15 |
Samanthacheers |
That is a few Ll, isn't it |
15:15 |
Gronk Seriman |
Would it be possible to put a door in the steeple? That would make a lovely office or study area. Not sure about the LI, though. |
15:16 |
Samanthacheers |
I totally agree, Gronk. that would look nice |
15:16 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
well, the importer of SL reduces the LI pretty much, if you don't define separate files for it. but the design looks corrupted from distance then. |
15:17 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
a door would be possible, yes |
15:17 |
Samanthacheers |
Great! :D |
15:17 |
Samanthacheers |
It is going to turn out well. |
15:17 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
but each additional detail has to be considered deeply, since it causes a higher LI |
15:18 |
Gronk Seriman |
Understood. |
15:18 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
if any of you has any ideas, just send me an IM, perhaps it can be done somehow |
15:19 |
Carl Metropolitan |
How about a bronze statue of me at 1.5 scale saying "our founder"? Nothing ostentatious :) |
15:19 |
Samanthacheers |
:) |
15:19 |
Meora (menchor) |
make sure its green |
15:19 |
Samanthacheers |
::Laughs:: |
15:20 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
the problem here is to find a good seamless bronze texture |
15:20 |
Gronk Seriman |
And pigeons. |
15:20 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I would definately want pigeons :) |
15:20 |
Samanthacheers |
Me too |
15:20 |
Meora (menchor) |
make sure he has his hand up over hius head |
15:20 |
Carl Metropolitan |
(I am joking, you realize?) |
15:20 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
:-) |
15:20 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
With or without droppings? :-) |
15:20 |
Samanthacheers |
:) |
15:21 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
but we can hang up some images at the walls |
15:21 |
Martini Discovolante |
we could use it to hold the Coin. |
15:22 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I had an idea for fundraising that I am shamelessly stealing from NCI. They have a "gacha" store, where people have donated boxed gacha prizes that they had surplus of to sell for L$ for NCI. I would not be surprised if there were tons and tons of superfluous gachas in the inventories of people in Caledon and Oxbridge. |
15:22 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Most Gacha boxes are only 1LI |
15:22 |
Red Quixote |
wth is a 'gacha'? |
15:23 |
Niki Listern |
Excuse me please I should go I am so sorry |
15:23 |
Tali Rosca |
Interestingly, Steadman talked about the same idea, though I don't know if he got it from NCI. |
15:23 |
|
Meora (menchor) notices Red leads a sheltered life |
15:23 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
come back soon, Niki |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The big new trend in selling stuff in SL. They are machines that have common, uncommon, and rare items that are created by a creator and only released through the machine. You put your money in and get a random item |
15:23 |
Niki Listern |
I will try if I am not as busy with RL stuff |
15:23 |
Red Quixote |
I am not easily swayed by 'shiny things'...no |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
So people buy lots trying to get the one they want. |
15:23 |
Martini Discovolante |
can they be used wiht a regular random-item script, orwould we need to buy soem gatcha boxes? |
15:23 |
Niki Listern |
take care to all |
15:24 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Bye Niki |
15:24 |
Martini Discovolante |
bye Niki--= feel better! |
15:24 |
Carl Metropolitan |
No I'm talking about getting donations of gachas people didn't want and selling those in an area in the train station. |
15:24 |
Carl Metropolitan |
No randomness on our end. |
15:24 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
hmmm |
15:25 |
Martini Discovolante |
oooh0--- resellign them? liek a yardsale? |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes! |
15:25 |
Martini Discovolante |
aha |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
All gachas are trans |
15:25 |
Martini Discovolante |
i see. |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Except from a few ripoff artists |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The idea is they can be traded and resold. |
15:25 |
Martini Discovolante |
they are indeed -- i have a zillion monogrammed pillows, tryign to spell out----nevermind. |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
There are a lot of gacha yard sales and the like already |
15:26 |
Martini Discovolante |
but we have to set the things out, adn that gets primmy |
15:26 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I have none, but know people who do. |
15:26 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. |
15:26 |
Meora (menchor) |
and once its sold its gone |
15:26 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Though if you look at some of the places that do that there are ways around that. |
15:26 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. |
15:26 |
Samanthacheers |
If you will excuse me i have to go... |
15:26 |
Martini Discovolante |
boxes. |
15:26 |
Carl Metropolitan |
LIke using a photo on a one prim box |
15:26 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Journey well. |
15:26 |
Carl Metropolitan |
And most gachas come in one prim boxes anyway |
15:27 |
Samanthacheers |
Bye all. |
15:27 |
Samanthacheers |
:) |
15:27 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
Ade |
15:27 |
Samanthacheers |
I will try to make it back. |
15:27 |
Martini Discovolante |
that is a good idea, Carl. |
15:27 |
Samanthacheers |
:) |
15:27 |
Samanthacheers |
Bye |
15:28 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The other idea NCI had (which they have not executed as well, due to lack of skilled creators) is having Gacha machines with NCI-exclusive merchandise donated to them. That's much harder to manage though. |
15:28 |
Martini Discovolante |
yus. |
15:28 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I believe strongly in stealing the best ideas I can find. |
15:28 |
Martini Discovolante |
and we need all the prizes we can get for the Advent card :) |
15:29 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Aye on that. |
15:31 |
Tali Rosca |
It's something worth considering. How do we proceed on this? |
15:31 |
Martini Discovolante |
ask for Gatcha donations to Oxbridge Mint |
15:32 |
Martini Discovolante |
or to Oxbridge Organizer |
15:32 |
Martini Discovolante |
Organiser |
15:32 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
i found this article explaining it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gashapon#Video_games |
15:32 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Not Oxbridge Guardian? :-) |
15:32 |
Martini Discovolante |
then Mint and Oxborg can set up the tent. |
15:33 |
Martini Discovolante |
welllll he *is* a bit of a dodo. |
15:33 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I would suggest that you get a volunteer who is a trusted staff member to handle it--someone who is acquainted already with SL Gacha culture. And I have no idea who. I'm am pretty sure there is one somewhere. |
15:34 |
Martini Discovolante |
if thi sis a yard sale-- the boxes simply need ot be set out. |
15:34 |
Martini Discovolante |
with the properperms, which should be east, Trans Only |
15:34 |
Martini Discovolante |
easy. |
15:35 |
Carl Metropolitan |
You still need signage, someone soliciting donations, organzing publicity, etc. |
15:35 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
indeed!! |
15:35 |
Martini Discovolante |
:) oh that stuff. |
15:35 |
Meora (menchor) |
need to make sure whoever is collecting the money owns the box |
15:35 |
Martini Discovolante |
but the items themselves need to go to Mint. |
15:36 |
Martini Discovolante |
because then the funds deposit directly |
15:36 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And then out. on display. |
15:36 |
Martini Discovolante |
no fuss, no muss |
15:36 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. True |
15:37 |
Carl Metropolitan |
This does need to be thought about some I guess. |
15:37 |
Martini Discovolante |
and oxborg is penniless, so anything he gets, goes to mint |
15:38 |
Martini Discovolante |
we can discuss in gmail -- but i think it is a fine and fun idea |
15:38 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I do also. |
15:39 |
|
Tali Rosca nods. "Let us do that, and move on to other questions." |
15:39 |
Martini Discovolante |
and limited time event :) |
15:39 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Good point. |
15:39 |
Martini Discovolante |
perfect for christmas gifts ;-) |
15:39 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Also, please pop over to NCI (on an alt if you must) and see how they have theirs set up. |
15:39 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is across the street near their main sandbox |
15:39 |
Carl Metropolitan |
in Kuula |
15:40 |
|
Martini Discovolante nods |
15:40 |
Martini Discovolante |
i will send that old biddy Dr Wirefly over. |
15:40 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
heh. |
15:42 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
time for another question? |
15:43 |
Meora (menchor) |
how easy is it ti slightly change the time on a train |
15:43 |
Meora (menchor) |
to |
15:43 |
Tali Rosca |
*A* train, possibly not too bad. The Caledonian trains... have a will of their own. |
15:44 |
Tali Rosca |
Joking apart, I don't actually know what controls their schedule. |
15:44 |
Martini Discovolante |
you will have to ask Mike Bacula about the trains here. he put those in. |
15:44 |
Meora (menchor) |
the Caledon trains if then one to Oxbridge were 2 minutes earlier it would connect with the train to Kittiwickshire |
15:44 |
Martini Discovolante |
mikebakula is his proper name |
15:46 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
It would depend a lot on whether they start at particular times, or when the prior one finishes the route or is lost in service. |
15:47 |
Martini Discovolante |
and the two lines might be made by different people too, |
15:48 |
Meora (menchor) |
so find out who owns the starting point? |
15:48 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And thus the train itself. |
15:50 |
Gronk Seriman |
It's sad that the train station in the Village is now gone. |
15:50 |
Tali Rosca |
In any case, the train schedules are somewhat out of the hands of Oxbridge itself. |
15:50 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
i agree, Miss Seriman, it was a great construction |
15:52 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
please excuse me |
15:53 |
Tali Rosca |
Any other questions? |
15:55 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Appears not. |
15:55 |
Martini Discovolante |
6 more minutes! and i am NOT clockwatchign becasue i can smell dinner... it was a public service announcement. |
15:57 |
Gronk Seriman |
Has there been any progress in the current LL regime's understanding of the usefulness of inworld schools like ours? |
15:57 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Who knows what lurks in the hearts of Lindens? |
15:57 |
Red Quixote |
. |
15:57 |
Red Quixote |
Ebbe Linden was here |
15:58 |
Gronk Seriman |
I heard about that. That's good! |
15:58 |
Tali Rosca |
There is, in fact, some active work going on, but it's still a little up in the air what it will lead to. Possibly some statistical tracking of Oxbridge and similar areas. |
15:59 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Lots of stuff is being discussed, but I will believe any of it when I see it. |
15:59 |
Martini Discovolante |
but as of now. nothing to report upon. |
16:00 |
Gronk Seriman |
Thank you. |
16:00 |
Tali Rosca |
But yes, the Lindens do seem to be working on understanding such areas. Right at the moment, I think the ball is mostly in their court. |
16:01 |
Martini Discovolante |
entirely in their court behind a rather high wall |
16:01 |
Tali Rosca |
I think that's it for today. |
16:02 |
Gronk Seriman |
Thank you, Deans! |
16:02 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Thank you all for coming and for your attention. |
16:02 |
Meora (menchor) |
thank you |
16:02 |
Larkylouz |
thank you deans, and everyone. |
16:02 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is for me. I have to run to the store. My (see first life picture) wants food and I'm out! |
16:02 |
Martini Discovolante |
heehee. |
16:02 |
Ravelli Ormstein |
many thanks to all of you for being here again today |
16:02 |
V (vachon.myrtle) |
Bon appetite |
16:02 |
Jules Doghouse |
in case noone said it, kudos to Martini for the stained glass work around the colleges |
16:02 |
Red Quixote |
good day all |
16:02 |
Martini Discovolante |
not my night to cook. so i get to go stare at the oven :P |
16:03 |
Martini Discovolante |
night everyone. |
