Tali Rosca |
Welcome to this week's questions-and-answers, where we - the deans of Oxbridge - will answer questions about the running of Oxbridge and the SL topics it touches upon. |
15:02 |
Tali Rosca |
We each handle a specific area, as can be seen here: http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/qna_index.php |
15:03 |
Tali Rosca |
So, with that, who has the first question? |
15:04 |
Tali Rosca |
...if any. |
15:04 |
Martini Discovolante |
if not-- we can all go outside to play. |
15:06 |
Gronk Seriman |
We need a Wheel of Topics. Whenver there are no questions, we can spin the wheel for an evergreen topic. |
15:07 |
Tali Rosca |
I think we know those topics, though. |
15:08 |
|
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) has no points to purchase more consonants. |
15:08 |
elfbiter Resident |
/ Me não tem pontos para comprar mais consoantes. |
15:08 |
Tali Rosca |
I wonder if we could do some Cards Against Humanity-style combination game with them, though. |
15:08 |
Gronk Seriman |
The Wheel would help us by chosing one. |
15:08 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
For some questions we could add the only right answer: "We don't know yet" |
15:09 |
Gronk Seriman |
Very true. |
15:10 |
Tali Rosca |
I think it has overall been a fairly quiet time in SL, so there are not even any news to comment on. |
15:10 |
Gronk Seriman |
How are we doing on new class development? I heard talk about an Avatar creation class? |
15:10 |
Tali Rosca |
... and the clock class. Wordsmith? |
15:10 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Miss Kidd was working on an Avatar appearance class. |
15:11 |
Martini Discovolante |
and Ravelli has made soem nice additions to the tutorial |
15:11 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Sandie Harbour is going to start teaching a prim clock making class, Wednesdays at 5p. |
15:11 |
Martini Discovolante |
yay! |
15:11 |
Gronk Seriman |
Ooo! |
15:11 |
Martini Discovolante |
i saw the clock.. it is very nice. |
15:12 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
It's a class that makes for some good skills and examples w/o being too complex. |
15:13 |
Tali Rosca |
An example of how texture, build and script work together. |
15:14 |
Martini Discovolante |
to make a thing. |
15:14 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And the scripts are open, so another example set. |
15:16 |
Gronk Seriman |
I still haven't given up on my Avatar Show & Tell class idea. Cooped-up weather is coming soon. May have time to work on it. |
15:18 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I've also got some updates I'll be doing on both the scripting and mesh classes. |
15:20 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Samm Florian now has a class format where 1st and 3rd Thursdays are a building tutorial and 2nd and 4th are show and tell (and problem solving, I suspect). |
15:21 |
Tali Rosca |
Show and tell is always fun. |
15:21 |
Tali Rosca |
Any other questions? |
15:22 |
Martini Discovolante |
oh-- RE Samm's Show&Tell... we talked when we had the UWash invasion, and i think Samm is going to hold S&T in the sandbox |
15:23 |
Martini Discovolante |
(a prof at RL u of washington tiried to bering 35 students in here -- right before her class!) |
15:23 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Ouch! |
15:24 |
Martini Discovolante |
yus.. he and i had a talk too , he will try to find a gentler --on us-- format for his virtual worlds class :) |
15:24 |
Meora (menchor) |
lots of people not able to get in |
15:24 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Augh.... |
15:24 |
Martini Discovolante |
But for Samm, it is not so much the size of her class, but the size of whatever they may have made :) |
15:24 |
Martini Discovolante |
adn ease of rezzing and cleanup. |
15:25 |
Phrynne |
Have you considered using the area with the building platforms over at the edge of Oxbridge Village? |
15:25 |
Tali Rosca |
We have a decent amount of *prims* available here for classes, but the size in particular could be an issue. |
15:25 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Right. I'll have to talk to her about sending me attendance, but that's a doable issue. |
15:26 |
Martini Discovolante |
the sandbox is a nice clear space, i worry about errant this and that winding up in the neighbors homes if on the ground. |
15:26 |
Martini Discovolante |
oh-- yes, Word-- i forgot about that. |
15:27 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Shouldn't be a problem with Samm. The only other issue is Moderate versus General. |
15:28 |
Martini Discovolante |
yus... that is another thing. |
15:28 |
Martini Discovolante |
i willleave it up to here to mull over. |
15:28 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Photo Salon does tours, so I've the same manual attendance tracking with that when they do. |
15:29 |
Martini Discovolante |
:) |
15:29 |
Meora (menchor) |
yesterday we had someone not go on tour |
15:30 |
Martini Discovolante |
did they stay behind and clap erasers? |
15:30 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Stay here instead? |
15:30 |
Meora (menchor) |
sat here until 7:00 |
15:30 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Do you know how many were on the tour? |
15:31 |
Meora (menchor) |
6 including Renee |
15:31 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Thanks. |
15:32 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
What was up with the one that stayed here? |
15:32 |
Meora (menchor) |
I have no idea he just ast there saying nothing for 2 hours |
15:33 |
Meora (menchor) |
sat |
15:33 |
Martini Discovolante |
sometimes they come, park and figure that they will read the chat later. |
15:33 |
Martini Discovolante |
surprise. |
15:34 |
Meora (menchor) |
that doesn't help with photo salon and he has been to class before |
15:36 |
Tali Rosca |
Other questions? |
15:36 |
Gronk Seriman |
Raises a hand. |
15:36 |
Tali Rosca |
Yes? |
15:37 |
Gronk Seriman |
When I go up to the Sandbox and the Atielier, I like to fly back down rather than teleport. I see a lot of things and places and platforms in the sky when I do that. Is all that stuff accounted for? Should all that be up there? Not sure which land the things are over, because my decent is usually right at the borders. |
15:37 |
Carl Metropolitan |
If it is not placed by a staff member it should autoreturn. |
15:37 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
A lot of that is over Village parcels. |
15:38 |
Tali Rosca |
The sandbox is in the village, so it's quite likely you're seeing somebody's skyboxes over their parcels there. |
15:38 |
Martini Discovolante |
yeh.. ther eis stuff at altitude all over the village. |
15:38 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Distance can seem deceptively small. |
15:38 |
Tali Rosca |
...that doesn't mean they haven't forgotten about it, though, but that's another matter... |
15:39 |
Martini Discovolante |
i am EM in the villafge too, adn check the Commonwealth property over there for debris as i can. |
15:40 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
If property changes hands and the new owner sets autoreturn, that should also clear debris from the prior owner. |
15:41 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
I did find a mislaid prim on a parcel in the village. I alerted the owner. I believ it was removed |
15:41 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
it was over a store |
15:41 |
Martini Discovolante |
and if a person does not set Autoreturn for their parcel, not much we can do about it. |
15:42 |
Meora (menchor) |
set autoreturn or expect occasional house cleaning |
15:42 |
Martini Discovolante |
is one leaves autoreturn off, always a good idea to regularly check "about land" for others belongings. |
15:42 |
Martini Discovolante |
i found a woman with a temp-rezz whole apartment over my pub there! |
15:43 |
Martini Discovolante |
i think her inbos is still blistered. |
15:43 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
lol |
15:43 |
Martini Discovolante |
inbox* |
15:43 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
she gota surprise |
15:43 |
Meora (menchor) |
temp rez really burdens the sim too |
15:43 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Some people, of course, don't understand that there is private land in second life. They assume if the system lets them do something it is okay. Others are just assholes. |
15:44 |
|
Wordsmith Jarvinen Thinks back to an entire stable that was once discovered under water. |
15:44 |
Martini Discovolante |
that is how i found it... i was fien , then not then fine then EERGH. |
15:44 |
Martini Discovolante |
lol! |
15:44 |
|
Martini Discovolante chortles. |
15:44 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Like the people who rezzed a sex bed in the attic of my friend Linda's house and used it. |
15:45 |
|
Phrynne considers the possible sales of poseball cleaner. |
15:45 |
Meora (menchor) |
or they think if they are up at 4000m no one will notice |
15:45 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Not to mention griefing items once placed underwater in SkyCity ara. |
15:45 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
*area |
15:46 |
|
Martini Discovolante refrains from relating old Dorm stories. |
15:46 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
heh. |
15:46 |
Gronk Seriman |
I do not have much faith in autoreturn. I've seen griefing items last for days in land that obviously wasn't the griefer's. |
15:47 |
Martini Discovolante |
you have to set it. |
15:47 |
Gronk Seriman |
Ah. Yes! True. |
15:48 |
Tali Rosca |
You can do some tricks with having an item rez new versions of itself. |
15:48 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Also is you set it to "0" that doesn't mean that things autoreturn instantly. It means autoreturn is off |
15:48 |
Martini Discovolante |
and any land reparcellign automatically resets it to 0 |
15:48 |
Meora (menchor) |
If you have autoreturn off you have to check the land |
15:48 |
Carl Metropolitan |
That's somewhat counter intuitive. |
15:48 |
Martini Discovolante |
indeed. |
15:51 |
Tali Rosca |
Even with the slow goings, we're closing in on the hour. |
15:52 |
Tali Rosca |
So any question for the last minutes? |
15:53 |
|
Gronk Seriman spins the Wheel. |
15:54 |
Gronk Seriman |
Any TOS news? Or is it Same as it Ever Was? |
15:55 |
Tali Rosca |
No changes to the ToS. |
15:56 |
Gronk Seriman |
Gah! |
15:56 |
|
Gronk Seriman spins the Wheel again |
15:56 |
Meora (menchor) |
Ha ha ha hahahaaa |
15:57 |
Gronk Seriman |
Any news on the New Lecture Hall? |
15:57 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Ravelli is not in |
15:57 |
Meora (menchor) |
there is one airship line running the one that goes to Oxbridge Village |
15:58 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
That's something. |
15:58 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And not ejecting passengers at boundaries? |
15:58 |
Gronk Seriman |
Does it still travel on to Steam Sky City? |
15:59 |
Meora (menchor) |
yes |
15:59 |
Gronk Seriman |
Yay! |
16:00 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Well..... Thank you all. |
16:00 |
Tali Rosca |
That's it for today. |
16:00 |
Phrynne |
thank you, Deans |
16:00 |
Meora (menchor) |
thank you Deans |
16:00 |
Martini Discovolante |
thank you all, and good night. |
16:00 |
Gronk Seriman |
Thank you, Deans! |
