Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Welcome to our weekly Oxbridge Deans' Q&A |
15:00 |
Martini Discovolante |
welcome everyone! |
15:00 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
You can find our various responsibilities at http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/qna_index.php |
15:02 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
You selection of deans is a bit more limited than sometimes today, but we'll do what we can. |
15:02 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Do we have a question (to prevent us from telling bad puns and the like)? |
15:02 |
Martini Discovolante |
we have Chancellor Metropolitan for backup!! |
15:03 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. |
15:03 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And a very welcome backup at that. |
15:03 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I know some things. |
15:03 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I hope |
15:03 |
Meora (menchor) |
anyone know why the airship is having an awful crash everrt time it trys to go from Oxbridge Village to Steam Sky City? |
15:03 |
Martini Discovolante |
important things, and more importantly, Trivial things :D |
15:04 |
|
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) groans |
15:04 |
Martini Discovolante |
the airships are not really under the aegis of Caledon Oxbridge... that is a question for Mr Serapis. |
15:05 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Do the airships ever manage to get to steam sky city? |
15:05 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Well, the underlying fault is the architecture of SL and the communication of information from one sim to another. |
15:05 |
Meora (menchor) |
not when I have been riding they used to |
15:06 |
Martini Discovolante |
or Gremlins. i suspect gremlins. |
15:06 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I wonder if the flight path might go over an area that's out of prims |
15:08 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Mr Serapis does try to keep the paths over commonwealth land, but an object can't fly over a parcel that has insufficient free prims, as Carl mentioned. |
15:09 |
Meora (menchor) |
its the greatest thrill ride in Caledon currently it zooms through about two sims, the ship crashes and leaves you hanging somewhere |
15:10 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Something to report to Mr. Serapis, it seems. |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
More questions? |
15:12 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
It could just be one of the cyclic sim boundary problems, but could also be something requiring a path adjustment. |
15:14 |
Martini Discovolante |
anyboddie? |
15:15 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Thank you all for coming this afternoon. |
15:16 |
Martini Discovolante |
we can still make Happy Hour! |
15:16 |
Carl Metropolitan whispers |
Maybe we should reformat this as a game show: " |
15:16 |
Carl Metropolitan |
"Stump The Deans". |
15:16 |
Martini Discovolante |
lol. with a dunk tank? |
15:16 |
lovejoy2199 |
Yes. Last week I asked a question about the firestorm upgrade. |
15:16 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Win prizes and L$ by asking a SL-related question the panel of deans can't answer. |
15:16 |
Martini Discovolante |
Firestorm has a great InWorld support group. |
15:17 |
Martini Discovolante |
that is the place for FS questions... thye know the latest and greatet. |
15:17 |
lovejoy2199 |
OK. Where might I find it? |
15:17 |
Martini Discovolante |
i can join you.. one moment |
15:17 |
Larkylouz |
I believe you search on "Firestorm Support English" |
15:17 |
Meora (menchor) |
yes |
15:18 |
Martini Discovolante |
there you go! |
15:18 |
lovejoy2199 |
TY |
15:18 |
Martini Discovolante |
if you use a third party viewer, it is reall y in your best interest ot join their in-world group, and to bookmark their website. |
15:19 |
Martini Discovolante |
each one has its own foibles and intricacies. |
15:20 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Along those lines, I did look during this last week for which viewers are both current and use the Havok sublicense for mesh upload. |
15:20 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
That appears to be the LL viewers, Firestorm, Alchemy, and Catznip. |
15:21 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
The Havok libraries under the sublicense are important both for physical shape decomposition with mesh upload and for pathfinding. |
15:22 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
On the topic of mesh, does it seem a good idea to give new residents a detailed separate tutorial for changing from the default mesh to a classic avatar? Many new residents seem confused by that and end up looking like they have leprosy. |
15:22 |
Martini Discovolante |
oh! i have a questions--- that Mesh deformity-- the one where you see a spike trailing off the av... what is the fix for that-- i have forgotten. |
15:23 |
Meora (menchor) |
if its you take off and rewear |
15:23 |
Martini Discovolante |
we try to do that in the tutorial. some understand right away, otheres are purely hopeless... but most eventually get it. |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
There is a tutorial now online. |
15:23 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
I am asking about an expansion of that particular lesson. I have had to tutor several step by step |
15:24 |
Carl Metropolitan |
http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/gazette/2014/08/02/avatars-reload/ |
15:24 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Larky created it. |
15:24 |
Larkylouz |
thank you, carl |
15:24 |
Carl Metropolitan |
As for the mesh "spiking" that's usually the result of trying to view fitted mesh objects in an older viewer. |
15:24 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Prof Kidd is also putting together an avatar appearance class. |
15:25 |
Martini Discovolante |
i hve the current or next to current viewer, and i ahve seen it twice lately. |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Hmm... |
15:25 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
OH great. We might want to reference that class in the tutorial hall. when it is ready |
15:25 |
Martini Discovolante |
i know, i thot it was odd. |
15:25 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I'll look into what I can find on that. |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Maybe adjust the rendervollod settings? |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
rendervolumelod settings, I mean. |
15:26 |
Meora (menchor) |
sometimes a mesh attachment thats part of clothing does that and the fix I have found id to take the piece off and wear it again |
15:26 |
Martini Discovolante |
but it is not on me, but on others. |
15:26 |
Meora (menchor) |
oh, never seen that one just sometimes takes a little while for clothes to rezz |
15:28 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
There's always the possibility that it's something in the weighting of the mesh itself. |
15:28 |
Martini Discovolante |
that could be. |
15:31 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
That came up in this discussion. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/Blender-Questions-Problems-amp-Co/td-p/1236833 |
15:32 |
Martini Discovolante |
so not client side then. |
15:33 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Not necessarily. I'll look for more on mesh clothing spikes. |
15:34 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I have a question now. When is the new Lecture Hall going to replace this one? It looks really good. |
15:34 |
Martini Discovolante |
well fingers crossed it was an anomolly- |
15:34 |
Martini Discovolante |
anomally |
15:35 |
Martini Discovolante |
a booboo. |
15:35 |
|
Larkylouz loves the technical geek-speak |
15:35 |
Meora (menchor) |
Ha ha ha hahahaaa |
15:35 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I haven't heard anything from Ravelli on that in a while. |
15:35 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
I think that's RAvelli's territory. About the new lecture hall, that is |
15:36 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I was just wondering if anyone had. |
15:37 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I know he's a perfectionist about this sort of stuff. |
15:37 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
He had some new features in addition to basic looks and may still be sorting those out. |
15:39 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Anything else? |
15:41 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Fall is upon us, which should bring some changes to Caledon as the Guvnah has time. |
15:41 |
|
Martini Discovolante nods. |
15:42 |
Martini Discovolante |
i can change the land texture, but Des has a much finer touch with it. |
15:42 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Leaves on the ground. |
15:42 |
Carl Metropolitan |
He always has good land textures |
15:42 |
Martini Discovolante |
then a growign dusting of snow. |
15:42 |
|
Larkylouz remembers the flap over the 'marijuana' leaves and snickers to herself |
15:43 |
|
Martini Discovolante koffs. |
15:43 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
*cough* |
15:43 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I was thinking of that myself, Miss Larky, not that they actually were, but some general resemblance. |
15:43 |
Martini Discovolante |
by thanksgiving there will be skating again. |
15:44 |
|
Larkylouz grins cheekily at Wordsmith. I have seen leaves just like that on the ground in RL parks. |
15:44 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And, I'd imagine an Oxbridge scarf or two to go with that. |
15:45 |
Martini Discovolante |
oh yus, free skates, scarves, and cocoa |
15:46 |
Kit Young |
I love cocoa |
15:46 |
Meora (menchor) |
scarf in school colors? |
15:46 |
Martini Discovolante |
and i think itis the only tiem the COU top hatis available |
15:46 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
I always scarf up the cocoa |
15:46 |
|
Martini Discovolante kersnortles |
15:47 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
Puns: the signal that the meeting has deteriorated |
15:48 |
Larkylouz |
"Watch your definition of 'deterioration', Mr. Cooper-Pentewyn!" |
15:48 |
Gronk Seriman |
Was it ever teriorated to begin with? |
15:48 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Or that the participants are too tired |
15:48 |
|
Larkylouz giggles |
15:48 |
|
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) snickers |
15:49 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I was tired going in. |
15:49 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
The scarves are in the Oxbridge colors (except for the cocoa spills) .... the cocoa remains its traditional color. |
15:49 |
Martini Discovolante |
with whipped cream adn a candycane. |
15:51 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Anyway, some things to look forward to. |
15:52 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
Any last questions? |
15:52 |
lovejoy2199 |
Hummmmm...any ties? The old school ties. |
15:52 |
Larkylouz |
Has anyone heard anything about a fix for a glitch where one cannot cut and paste to SL chat windows? |
15:52 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
I want to compliment the senior staff on the new stained glass windows. The polkadot newbie is a work of genius |
15:52 |
Larkylouz |
In the LLV viewer. |
15:52 |
Martini Discovolante |
just the usual vaguaries of lag, Larky. |
15:52 |
Martini Discovolante |
so i am not sure there is a fix. |
15:53 |
Larkylouz |
Seems to be a glitch possibly related to Skype or a virus program. I fixed FS so it is usable, but not the LLV. |
15:53 |
Martini Discovolante |
aww.. thanks, David. they were fun to do. |
15:53 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Those are by Martini |
15:53 |
Carl Metropolitan |
And the newbies in them are from the newbie avatars from several years back. |
15:54 |
Martini Discovolante |
so Larky you cannot Cut/paste at all? not just intermittent? that is awful. i would be lost. |
15:54 |
Martini Discovolante |
lol-- Carl-- they were current whne i started the project :P |
15:54 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
They do parallel the stained glass of antiquity. A mesh avatar would be less inspiring. |
15:54 |
Larkylouz |
I haven't checked in a couple of days. But yes, i COULDN'T At all. It prompted a move to FS. Go figure! |
15:55 |
Martini Discovolante |
you also might try switching to the LLV beta. |
15:55 |
Martini Discovolante |
sometimes that solves odd problems liek that. |
15:56 |
Kit Young |
any new words on SL 2.0? |
15:56 |
Larkylouz |
thanks, Martini. I'll look into that. |
15:56 |
David Cooper-Pentewyn (deebeecooper) |
I must ask to be excused. Dinner in RL is served. |
15:56 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Aw cripes.... |
15:56 |
Martini Discovolante |
kiss the cook! |
15:56 |
|
Larkylouz thinks David has it rough! |
15:56 |
Larkylouz |
Hi to Beth, please |
15:56 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
I'm not running into that. Lag seems likely unless something else is intercepting. |
15:57 |
Martini Discovolante |
OH! i was infected woith all of my inventory at once the other night!!! |
15:57 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
Bye david |
15:58 |
Martini Discovolante |
we have had a couple of folks come where with the same problem |
15:58 |
Larkylouz |
Removing parts of skype helped with the FS. |
15:59 |
Carl Metropolitan |
That is a scary looking tiny |
15:59 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Okay, bedtime for me. |
15:59 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
What? where? |
16:00 |
Martini Discovolante |
i had to log back in in a different viewer and run a character test. |
16:00 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Be seeing you. |
16:00 |
Wordsmith Jarvinen |
And, we've run our time. |
16:00 |
Martini Discovolante |
everytiem i relogged in the same viewer, i was wearign different stuff. |
16:00 |
Meora (menchor) |
time for me to log |
16:00 |
Larkylouz |
Good night, Mr. Elfbiter |
16:00 |
Andrea Jones (andreajonesms) |
