Caledon Oxbridge Q&A for 2014-07-13
15:02 | Tali Rosca | Then let us start; with the sim full, we can't expect any stragglers to join us. |
15:03 | Tali Rosca | So, to do the customary welcome: |
15:03 | Ravelli Ormstein whispers | Hello Tali |
15:03 | Tali Rosca | Welcome to this week's QA with the Deans, where we - the Deans of Oxbridge - will try to answer questions about Oxbridge, Caledon and SL in general. |
15:03 | Tali Rosca | As most of you know, we each have an area of expertise, as listed here: |
15:04 | Martini Discovolante | there he is. |
15:04 | Tali Rosca | http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/qna_index.php |
15:04 | Tali Rosca | So, it seems we have a five-dean night. |
15:04 | Steadman Kondor | greetings all |
15:04 | Red Quixote | greetings |
15:04 | Tali Rosca | Or afternoon, or whatever it is where you are. |
15:04 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Good Afternoon |
15:04 | Ravelli Ormstein | Hello Steadman |
15:04 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | Hello Mr. Kondor! I was asking if you could make it earlier. Congratulations on a fantastic job with the Gazette! |
15:04 | Ololo Petya (olopierpa) | Hello all |
15:05 | Tali Rosca | So let us set to it. Any questions? |
15:05 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | I have one but ill wait a min. give others a chance. mines a little complicated :P |
15:05 | Ololo Petya (olopierpa) | A friend of mine would like to attend this session, as she has some question. However she's banned from Oxbridge. Could she be unbanned for the duration of this session? |
15:06 | Martini Discovolante | pardon me. |
15:06 | Red Quixote | sketchy connections |
15:07 | Tali Rosca | Who is it? |
15:07 | Ravelli Ormstein | she should send us a note card with her questions, if it is that important. without a reason she will not got banned. but we can check it |
15:07 | Ololo Petya (olopierpa) | Ms. Thought (psychicthoughtspy) |
15:08 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | I have a question about the Gazette: What would be great for contributors to submit? |
15:08 | Martini Discovolante | i just banned her today. |
15:08 | Steadman Kondor | articles are welcome, that are of interest to scholars |
15:09 | Steadman Kondor | foremost, then also to those part of this community, like the faculty and sponsors |
15:09 | Steadman Kondor | if you like, contact me and i have a list of proposed articles |
15:09 | Tali Rosca | I am generally of the opinion that if people have managed to get themselves banned, they have chosen to cut themselves off from the resources we have here. But I don't know the circumstances. |
15:09 | Steadman Kondor | Thanks for your interest, since dean wordsmith helped me to take stats, we have 200 visitors, and 1000 hits this month |
15:09 | Tali Rosca | Getting banned is not a random event; it is something you work towards being. |
15:10 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | I particularly liked the interview to Mr. Snow. |
15:10 | Martini Discovolante | after several request to cease the activity one is banned for. |
15:11 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Of course, even banned, one could submit a question, and the transcripts will be posted afterward. |
15:11 | Carl Metropolitan | I got a suggestion via the Deans suggestion box about someone peeping via camera into the female dressing room from the male dressing room. They suggested they be moved further apart. Though that will not discourage a dedicated peeper who know SL well, it might be a good idea for at least the illusion of privacy. |
15:12 | Tali Rosca | Yes, I saw that notecard. It's a decent idea, and not too hard to implement, so I think we should do it, if we can update the anywhere doors. |
15:12 | Martini Discovolante | oh i sent her a note about the spying.... i did not realize the note went to all the deans |
15:12 | Tali Rosca | We could move them to different heights. |
15:12 | Ravelli Ormstein | we have two dressing rooms at campus, and two in the village. |
15:13 | Meora (menchor) | could you put them on their own small parcel and turn off the ability to see anyone on that parcel? |
15:13 | Larkylouz | That would stop from overhearing talking pregnancy tests, too. Just sayin' |
15:13 | Martini Discovolante | no.. we cannot chop up the region, it makes maintenance to hellish. |
15:13 | Tali Rosca | The problem is that parcel settings also take effect down on the ground level. |
15:13 | Martini Discovolante | too* |
15:14 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | From the male dressing room in the village, I can see a pink cube that might be the female dressing room. However, I think it's well protected from peepers. |
15:14 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) swears he has never tried
15:14 | Ravelli Ormstein | i can't imagine that "spying" is such a big problem |
15:14 | Carl Metropolitan | Here not to the deans went to me. Not your response. |
15:14 | Tali Rosca | If people really want, they can easily sweep their camera across an entire sim. |
15:14 | Martini Discovolante | i told her that. |
15:14 | Tali Rosca | But the temptation may be less if it is entirely out of sight to begin with. |
15:14 | Carl Metropolitan | I think the Anywhere Doors automatically reset if you move them. They are mine; I can check and make adjustments if needed. |
15:15 | Red Quixote | am I the only one that finds the concept of 'pixel peepers' absurd? :P |
15:15 | Tali Rosca | I don't think it's a huge problem either, but if it makes some people more comfortable, I don't see why not. |
15:15 | Tyson Minuet | second that! |
15:15 | Ravelli Ormstein | i used to cam 1500m and more when i'm in the skybox, that works easily today |
15:15 | Carl Metropolitan | I don't find it absurd. People identify with their avatars closely. |
15:15 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | Well I don't know if someone's peeped at me while changing (and I do that a lot :p) but I wouldn't like to make someone uncomfortable. |
15:15 | Ravelli Ormstein | yep, Tali |
15:15 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) is no voyeur
15:15 | Larkylouz | Plus I know for a fact that male avis have changed gender so they can snoop. Although I empathise with the desire for privacy. |
15:15 | Martini Discovolante | here was my answer to her, in part: he problem with spying or "camming" is that you can cam all the way into the next region if you want. A Camera can see as far away as the avatar sets their Draw Distance. So moving the dressing rooms will not prevent camming at all. What might help is to IM the offender and ask them to keep their eyes to themselves. In my experience, people who do things like that in a virtual world are usually quite immature, and counting on anonymity. Once discovered, they will leave. |
15:16 | ɱιɳα (minawon) | :O |
15:16 | Red Quixote | I find the concept absurd,.. I find the perps to be looney |
15:16 | ɱιɳα (minawon) | loony perps |
15:16 | Carl Metropolitan | It is also possible to turn off display of your crosshairs, too. |
15:16 | Red Quixote | but I understand Carl,.. how some might get upset |
15:16 | Martini Discovolante | i also recommended our Avatar Safety class. |
15:17 | Carl Metropolitan | Does anyone mind if I try to move the changing rooms further apart? |
15:17 | dermusikman | Question: I'd thought the dressing rooms to be a novelty - are avatars actually stripped when changing clothes? I haven't seen that when adjusting my wardrobe |
15:17 | Martini Discovolante | not at all |
15:17 | Ravelli Ormstein | nope |
15:17 | Martini Discovolante | just remember to change the location in the Anywhere doors ;-) |
15:17 | Tyson Minuet feels that people choose their emotion and theres no way to control all possible outcomes. It may be best to just let people who have some kind of identity crisis that feel they are their cartoon, go elsewhere to chnage the pixel clothing on their avatar
15:17 | Tali Rosca | Often, you do strip, and then try out various clothes to mix and match. |
15:17 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | Not on my end. |
15:17 | dermusikman | @Tali Thank you for that clarification |
15:18 | Martini Discovolante | We try to offer some privacy here in Oxbridge, but to be honest, there is no such thing as privacy in Second Life ~ Only what we can demand for ourselves |
15:18 | Tali Rosca | If you have some "pre-packaged" full outfit, you can switch into it instantly. |
15:18 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | Also, while changing to a new outfit, people may choose to strip to put on the pieces one by one. |
15:18 | ZHAO-II steadman | Touched. |
15:18 | Ravelli Ormstein | some avatars appear totally naked when they don't wear clothes. others have underwear painted on skin, but merely the starter avatars so far i know |
15:18 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | That would be what I do. |
15:18 | Carl Metropolitan | Yes, some avatars do take off their clothes to change outfits. |
15:18 | Carl Metropolitan | It is not uncommon at all. |
15:18 | ɱιɳα (minawon) falls off her chair
15:18 | Martini Discovolante | most think that you have to. |
15:18 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | I do have a starter skin with painted underwear though. :p |
15:19 | Larkylouz | Mr. Minuet, I find your comments rather inappropriate and distracting. Please desist. |
15:19 | Tyson Minuet | ehhh thats you chooisng a negative emotion.. nods |
15:19 | Tyson Minuet | i couldnt control that only you could... owning ur emotions is the first step to self actualization |
15:19 | dermusikman | And, how does one determine if one has been "peeped"? Does another taunt them, or can you determine who does or doesn't see you at any given time? |
15:20 | Carl Metropolitan | Der j |
15:20 | ɱιɳα (minawon) | aaaaw yeaaaaah |
15:20 | Tyson Minuet | question! |
15:20 | Tyson Minuet | why am i sitting down here and not on stage? |
15:20 | Carl Metropolitan | dermusikman, you can turn on a setting in your SL clients where you can see the target cross hairs of everyone's camea |
15:20 | Tali Rosca | Some clients can be set up to show where other's camera is focused. |
15:21 | dermusikman | Thank you |
15:21 | Carl Metropolitan | Stage is for the Deans of Oxbridge that the Q&A is with. |
15:21 | Martini Discovolante | mind you language please. |
15:21 | Tali Rosca | It's the same information the client is using to turn the avatar's heads and eyes to where they are looking. |
15:21 | Ravelli Ormstein | it is possible to activate a Loot At cross, thats indicates the cameras spot of other avatars, which can be set to objects and avatars. but it is possible to deactivate the cross for others. e.g. you would not see my cross then |
15:21 | Tyson Minuet | howdo i become a dean? i have a phd in counseling psych from baylor |
15:22 | Tali Rosca | The deans are drafted from the people who help run Oxbridge. |
15:22 | Tyson Minuet points at josalin's mustache "and this guy feels the same way"
15:23 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | And who understand the culture and expectations. |
15:23 | Tali Rosca | CarFreak, you had a question? |
15:23 | Tyson Minuet | so there are no real set standards? credentialing? |
15:23 | Larkylouz | Please have a seat, Mr. Minuet |
15:23 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Yes I did |
15:23 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | I work Monday Through Friday, 3pm SLT to 11pm SLT. Im not able to make alot of the classes and would really like to participate. Are there other times, or private sessions that I could set up so that I may get the chance to participate in the classes you offer? |
15:24 | Carl Metropolitan | Tyson--The main standard for a dean is the willingness to do lots of unpaid (and often unappreciated) work. |
15:24 | Tali Rosca | The euro- vs US time is a bit of a... well, not really problem. |
15:24 | Tali Rosca | It's just a part of how SL works. |
15:24 | Martini Discovolante | there are lots of other very good places for classes too, Mr CarFreak. |
15:24 | Tyson Minuet | ok, this isnt for me.. ya'll take care |
15:24 | Tali Rosca | We try to spread things out as best we can, but it largely comes down to when the teaches are available. |
15:24 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | There are occasional class shifts to European time. |
15:25 | Martini Discovolante | have fun, Mr Minuet. |
15:25 | Tyson Minuet | seriousness is an epidemic... yall focus on that if ya wanna smile more |
15:25 | Red Quixote | aye |
15:25 | Ravelli Ormstein | next question? :-) |
15:25 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | Who's not smiling here? |
15:25 | Martini Discovolante | and do not let the stained glass door knock of your bowler o n the way out. |
15:25 | Tali Rosca | Are there any classes you're particularly interested in on a Euro time? |
15:25 | Red Quixote | just another charm school dropout |
15:26 | Steadman Kondor | it's such a good morning, nothing can stop me smiling :) |
15:26 | Tali Rosca | I should mention that we do have quite a few Europeans in the faculty. |
15:26 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | I have a law degree and I'm not flaunting it around. |
15:26 | Red Quixote | I *seriously* doubt he had a phd |
15:27 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Well actually im in the US Mountain time,.. idk if that matters, But my main intrest was Building and a couple others id have to loo kat again |
15:27 | Meora (menchor) | sure he did he mailed in $25 and it came back in the mail |
15:27 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | look* |
15:27 | Gronk Seriman | Piled Higher and Deeper. |
15:27 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | kk Let's get focused by on topic. |
15:27 | Carl Metropolitan | Wow. Mine cost 60USD. I got ripped off! |
15:27 | Martini Discovolante | i am mountian time, and i teach classes. |
15:27 | Red Quixote | lol |
15:27 | Red Quixote | I am also in mountain time |
15:28 | Martini Discovolante | did it come with the Dr of Divinity too, Carl? |
15:28 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Was there any particular time (in SLT time-frame) that you need, Carfreak? |
15:28 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Normally, when we've shifted a class it's to 10am SLT. |
15:29 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | wel lactually no... and time between 8am and 1pm4 |
15:29 | Tali Rosca | It sounds like it would have to be *later* than the usual US time. |
15:29 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | well* |
15:29 | Tali Rosca | Or, I can't count. |
15:29 | Tali Rosca | The "early" Euro time would also suit, it seems. |
15:29 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | So, the 10am and Noon time slots would work. |
15:30 | dermusikman | Timezone confusions are always confusing |
15:30 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | But the classes im really intrested in are the Building, Scripting and i missed it earlier but i want the Smart shopper fundamentals |
15:30 | Martini Discovolante | smart shopper is early. |
15:30 | Tali Rosca | 10am and noon are good Euro-spots. (Though 10 may collide with dinner time) |
15:31 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | yeah i coulda made it earlier today.. I just didnt catch it due to my fault |
15:31 | Martini Discovolante | most all of are classes are same time every week! you can rejoin us next week! |
15:31 | Ravelli Ormstein | no need to hurry with classes. RL usually offers enough chances to take them all |
15:31 | Tali Rosca | But basically, I don't think you should expect the schedule to shift around much. |
15:32 | Tali Rosca | We do change classes every now and then, but it is mostly stable. |
15:32 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Dean Steadman had run a Basic Building before at 10am, Miss Louz does her basic photography at 10am once a month. |
15:32 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Ok well next week i can make the Shoppers one |
15:32 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | but my schedule isnt gonna change anytime soon for the Building and scripting classes |
15:32 | Tali Rosca | You should probably try taking a look at other help centers, and see if they offer a similar class at a good time. |
15:32 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Ok |
15:32 | Larkylouz | Some instructors may be willing to work with you individually. There's nothing wrong with asking. And other places have classes, as Tali said. |
15:32 | Tali Rosca | NCI, Builders Brewery? |
15:33 | Meora (menchor) | Builder's Brewery has basic classes at different times |
15:33 | Carl Metropolitan | Try Builders Brewery, NCI, Fermi Sandbox |
15:33 | Martini Discovolante | And, Carfreak, if you have questions, you can always ask int he Scholar's Group Chat -- soem of the best minds in the metaverse are lurkign there! |
15:33 | Red Quixote | there place in world that you can access building and scripting tutorials |
15:33 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | The scripting, which I'm doing for the moment, could also be shifted occasionally. |
15:33 | Carl Metropolitan | Rockcliffe University and Dreams |
15:33 | Red Quixote | Builder's brewery has excellent classes |
15:33 | Tali Rosca | -Or catch one of the tutors (or deans) when they hang around outside. |
15:33 | Tali Rosca | Most people are happy to chat and help. |
15:33 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | ok great. I appreciate it. |
15:34 | Red Quixote | we have a small build tutorial in our sandbox as well |
15:34 | Josain Zsun | So do Happy Helpers, Happy Hippo & NCI. Happy Hippo offers DIY classes as well |
15:34 | Ravelli Ormstein | good point, Red |
15:34 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | ok ill check it out |
15:34 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Along with builders brewery |
15:35 | Steadman Kondor | there's an awesome sandbox here at Oxbridge too, and many friendly experienced builders |
15:35 | Tali Rosca | Simply playing around with the tools up in the sandbox, and then ask people when you need specific help, can also be a good way to do it, depending a little on how you like to learn. |
15:35 | Steadman Kondor | who work there regularly... |
15:35 | Tali Rosca | There is a tendency in SL that when people do something, they are also happy to talk about it. |
15:35 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Watch our schedule on the web also. Apart from slip-ups, I do try and get schedule changes on that at least several days in advance. |
15:35 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Oh I can figure stuff out pretty quick. Im a fast learner.. So thats probably what ill do. |
15:36 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/class_schedule.php |
15:36 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | If i do have questions though ill keep my eye open for people who know |
15:36 | Tali Rosca | If people have the "Tutor" tag active, they are here to help. |
15:36 | Tali Rosca | That doesn't mean that you *can't* get help from others. |
15:37 | Martini Discovolante | Somethign that helped me a lot, Carfreak, and was really fun, was having a couple of building buddies, we all learned together, adn shared skills. |
15:37 | Carl Metropolitan | I think the weekly schedules for Builders Brewery and NCI are on the web too |
15:37 | Carl Metropolitan | Let me find them for you. |
15:37 | Carl Metropolitan | http://www.buildersbrewery.com/calendar/ |
15:37 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | ok thanks, I dont really know anyone atm haha. but ill definately take everything you guys have told me in. |
15:37 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Thanks Carl |
15:37 | Tali Rosca | And having some specific thing you want to make. It gives you a focus to work towards, and more targeted questions. |
15:37 | Carl Metropolitan | http://www.nci-sl.info/blog/ |
15:38 | Tali Rosca | Other questions? |
15:38 | Carl Metropolitan | And we are on the web too |
15:38 | Steadman Kondor | Mr Xim you are also welcome to try out the basic building challenge at the gazette - June activity sheet. http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/gazette/ |
15:38 | Carl Metropolitan | http://www.caledonoxbridge.org/class_schedule.php |
15:38 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Ok cool, And yeah i already know the area im looking to go for so yeah., Thanks |
15:38 | Carl Metropolitan | Those are the only places I know with web schedules, but there could be others. |
15:39 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | k Thanks all, THis all helps alot :) |
15:39 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | this* |
15:39 | Martini Discovolante | i think BBrewery has oen, but you can get that when you join there :) |
15:40 | Carl Metropolitan | I gave the wrong URL for the NCI schedule |
15:40 | Carl Metropolitan | http://nci-sl.info/education/Schedule.pdf |
15:40 | Carl Metropolitan | That's the correct one. |
15:40 | Carl Metropolitan | Sorry |
15:41 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | No problem. Thanks for grabbing them for me |
15:41 | Tali Rosca | Any news from Caledon or Oxbridge this week? |
15:42 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Well, 81 student hours taught this last week. |
15:42 | Larkylouz | I have a question. When we have a break. |
15:42 | Steadman Kondor | I am planning a small auction for oxbridge fundraising |
15:43 | Steadman Kondor | and to raise awareness of donor programs etc. |
15:43 | Tali Rosca | Oh? When and where? |
15:43 | Steadman Kondor | more on this soon, but i will be putting a call out for merchants |
15:43 | Carl Metropolitan | Oh cool! |
15:43 | Steadman Kondor | it is not an art auction, but unusual rare, one-off type items, |
15:44 | Gronk Seriman | I have never seen an auction in SL! How eill that work? |
15:44 | Steadman Kondor | and alongside there will be other 'support COU' vendor boards by merchants |
15:44 | Steadman Kondor | there are two types of auction scripts |
15:44 | XImThatOneGuyX (carfreak2069) | Well everyone. Thanks alot for the help. Hope to see everyone around. I must go but it was Nice meeting everyone. Josain, Thanks again for the notes. They will help. Everyone have a Nice evening. |
15:44 | Steadman Kondor | one where you pay it, to be the highest bider - you are refunded if you are outbid |
15:44 | Steadman Kondor | second where you put in an interest by clicking the board |
15:44 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | tc |
15:44 | Steadman Kondor | take care |
15:44 | Mariano Fernandez (marianoryu) | Please excuse me, but it's dinner time for me now. Thank you for the answer, Mr. Kondor, and good evening to all! |
15:45 | Gronk Seriman | Goodnight, yopu two |
15:45 | Steadman Kondor | so please, if any creators here, i'm interested in the rare or custom items (perhaps a full gacha set) |
15:45 | Steadman Kondor | or other times you might donate for proceeds to the university |
15:46 | Steadman Kondor | even custom services, like a portrait photography or a pose :) |
15:47 | Steadman Kondor | food for thought? contact me pls for any questions during the week |
15:48 | Larkylouz raises her hand.
15:48 | Tali Rosca | Yes? |
15:48 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Miss Larky? |
15:49 | Martini Discovolante | the Comfy Chair recognizes Misss LArky ;-) |
15:49 | Meora (menchor) | Ha ha ha hahahaaa |
15:49 | Red Quixote | :) |
15:49 | Larkylouz | Oh! Multitasking. sorry |
15:50 | Josain Zsun | and on a 1200 baud modem |
15:50 | Larkylouz | I had a strangeness last night. A friend wanted to talk to me, but she ... LOL Josain.... |
15:50 | Carl Metropolitan | I remember those. It was lightning fast compared to the 300 baud modem I started out with :) |
15:51 | Larkylouz | but her Teleport request options on my menu were grayed out. I've looked at everyone here, and don't see the same thing. Did she set something and forget about it, or what would cause that? |
15:51 | Meora (menchor) | RLV? |
15:51 | Larkylouz | RLV? |
15:51 | Ravelli Ormstein | the server/client connection might have been confused. has a relog helped her? |
15:51 | Carl Metropolitan | Restrained Love Viewer |
15:52 | Josain Zsun | I've seen that if the account has been set to not visit M or A sims. |
15:52 | Tali Rosca | I think it is officially *Life* now. |
15:52 | Carl Metropolitan | Can be enabled in most third party viewers for forms of BDSM play. |
15:52 | Martini Discovolante chuckles.
15:52 | Larkylouz | it is my problem, and no, I just checked - still gray |
15:52 | Tali Rosca | If you can see her online status, you *should* be able to invite, to my knowledge. |
15:52 | Tali Rosca | There is no separate setting for that. |
15:53 | Larkylouz | Hmmm - |
15:53 | Larkylouz | I can't see her doing BDSM - morelikely that she set her viewer to G ratings - but I have been in adult sims with her. (Did you know you can play Pictionary in an adult sim?) |
15:54 | Tali Rosca | I can imagine. |
15:54 | Ravelli Ormstein | perhaps she set the setting to hide online status to others, like Dean Tali referred too |
15:55 | Larkylouz | oh, that makes sense. |
15:55 | Ravelli Ormstein | you could try it out and let us know next sunday |
15:56 | dermusikman | I've a question about the music in particular, and SL in general. |
15:56 | Tali Rosca | Yes? The music here? |
15:56 | dermusikman | By the way, the music is lovely - thank you! |
15:56 | Larkylouz | thanks for the help, folks. |
15:56 | dermusikman | I note the commercials. Do you get funding from the commercials? Or, is it the nature of what you're streaming? |
15:56 | dermusikman | Or, would they be disabled if I were premium? I'm simply curious |
15:57 | Tali Rosca | That's the stream. It's essentially a radio station. |
15:57 | Tali Rosca | So they get *their* funding from the commercials. |
15:57 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | It is the audio stream itself that determines those. |
15:57 | dermusikman | Very good, thank you :) |
15:58 | Ravelli Ormstein | the stream here sometimes adds a commercial, but that should not happen often. it is difficult to find a stream, which streams classical music without commercials and without talks. this stream is a compromise. |
15:58 | Tali Rosca | It's a general Internet radio. We just picked it because it had fitting music. |
15:58 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Which from the SL point of view is just a URL to the stream. |
15:58 | dermusikman | I enjoy the selection, thank you! Though I've had an account for some time, I'm rather new and getting a feel for SL both before, and behind, the screen |
15:59 | Tali Rosca | Any last question? We're almost out of time. |
15:59 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Any "owner" of a land parcel can set the audio steam for the parcel. |
16:00 | dermusikman | /nods |
16:00 | Steadman Kondor | a prim can play media too |

16:00 | dermusikman | I suppose a question I have is how one gestures ^^;; otherwise, I'm quite satisfied with this Q&A |
16:00 | Steadman Kondor | and ... other sounds can be layed |
16:00 | Very old leather fireside chair w 3 fireside, 4 normal sits whispers | (⇞PgUp or ⇟ PgDn ) change your pose. Touch for menu. |
16:00 | Steadman Kondor | played by objects or gestures |
16:00 | Wordsmith Jarvinen | Basically, gesturing is playing an animation. |
16:01 | Tali Rosca | Let's take that gesture explanation outside. |
16:01 | Tali Rosca | And call the official part of the QA over. |
