15:25 Tali Rosca Caledon is a private business. All sims are owned by Desmond Shang, and he rents them out to residents.

15:27 Marion Questi Oxbridge pays rent to Mr. Shang like all the other regions...and we, the Deans, run Oxbridge...
15:27 Tali Rosca That means he is ultimate authority in all matters, but his primary intention is to keep a welcoming and respectful community, so he rarely has to come down hard with any rulings.
15:27 Miles Crowley So each region is run independitly by someone and they all rent from Desmund?
15:27 Martini Discovolante And he will take no part in the runningn of Oxbridge.
15:28 Tali Rosca The different areas are then under the control of either the renters (for the individual parcels), or the "Estate managers", which are right-hand helpers for Desmond.
15:28 Marion Questi Some regions (we call them Duchys) are rented by a single person..but most have multiple renters.
15:28 Ravelli Ormstein some regions are duchies, they are rented by one avatar only. the most regions have multiple residents.
15:28 Tali Rosca And many of the areas with multiple renters have "commonwealth land", park areas and walkways for common use.

15:29 Tali Rosca Arguably, that is Des' job, too.
15:29 Tali Rosca It's not like he runs around telling residents what to do; rather the reverse.

15:30 Marion Questi There are many volunteers who help Desmond in various ways....Oxbridge runs exclusively on volunteer labor.
15:31 Tali Rosca Caledon is somewhat unique in that it's a single landlord who has a coherent "continent".
15:31 Tali Rosca Most areas are either smaller, or not connected, instead being simply middlemen for disconnected sims.
15:32 Miles Crowley (clockworkcrowley) That's why I was curious how the place was ran since it looked like a very large landmass
15:33 Tali Rosca To a large extend, it tends to be somewhat self-governing, in the sense that the people who choose to live here are people who also want to maintain the area.
15:33 Larkylouz My experience is far from extensive, but there is definitely a sense of community throughout, as well.

15:48 Tali Rosca Once you get a little experience with how SL works, and feel comfortable answering questions, helping here at Oxbridge, as tutor or professor is also an option.

15:50 Tali Rosca If you have a good idea for an event, for example, I am sure you can easily find people who'd contribute land to host it while you coordinated things.
15:50 Marion Questi In a way...Most regions have some Commonwealth land...and the CATs fly over that.

15:51 Larkylouz The Photo Salon class has informally taken on the task of documenting sims that are slated to disappear. Any such project like that contributes, as does any other form of positive participation.

15:54 Ravelli Ormstein you can of course come another week. besides of this, you can come to the campus and just ask a faculty member for help, or ask in the group chat. usually our faculty members and the scholars are willing to help, and often spend hours over hours with it

15:54 Larkylouz Many professors provide the text of the class and 'supplies' to all attendees. It can't hurt to ask if you mighthave a copy.
