15:00 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is 3 PM, SL Time, and it is time to start. Welcome to our first General Q&A of 2021. |
15:00 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I'm here to answer any of your questions about Second Life, Caledon, Oxbridge, Steampunk, Linden Lab, Virtual Worlds, and anything vaguely related to any of the above. I'm also good at trivia questions. |
15:01 |
Carl Metropolitan |
If I don't know the answer, I can Google it. In other words, I know where to look, or at least can probably put you in touch with someone who does know the answer. |
15:02 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Normally, at this point, I'd ask Andrea for announcements, but she's not in world right now, so I will skip that part, as I'm not sure what's going on when. |
15:02 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Let's go straight into Questions. This is a highly interactive sort of class. If you have no questions, there's not much I can do :) |
15:03 |
Larky (larkylouz) |
She announced a COU fundraiser this afternoon. |
15:03 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Is it in group notices? |
15:03 |
Larky (larkylouz) |
Likely. I'll look. |
15:03 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Found it. |
15:04 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The first COU Fundraiser for the year 2021! |
15:04 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Come join us this coming Sunday the 3rd from 4 to 6 as we dance to the tunes spun by DJ Sasha! We will be in the COU Winter Pavilion. So please dress warm, there is little heat. Caledon Oxbridge Village (145,182,23) |
15:04 |
Carl Metropolitan |
So that's right after this class. |
15:04 |
Soup Jonson |
Oh dress warm! |
15:04 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. Let's go right into questions. |
15:04 |
Zaida Gearbox (zaida.gearbox) |
There's a dragon in the back. |
15:05 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. That's not uncommon, Zaida |
15:05 |
Larky (larkylouz) |
There's an announcement of a fundraiser this afternoon from 4 to 6 pm. DJ Sasha. Winter Pavilion. Caledon Oxbridge Village (145,182,23). The announcement is in the COUG/Scholar's group. |
15:06 |
Carl Metropolitan |
So questions? |
15:06 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I have a question about LL houses. |
15:06 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Ask away, Pippilotte. |
15:07 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I have someone in my security, but that avatar doesn't exist. I sent ticket to LL with question about it, but I didn't get answer yet. Can I do something with it? |
15:08 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
It is in new SL houses so I suppose it is some kind of bug. |
15:08 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Is this person someone that you want to be able to have access to your house? |
15:08 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
No, I have no idea who is it. |
15:09 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I tried to delete it, but house tell me, that avatar doesn't exist. |
15:09 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is probably left over from the previous owner of the house. He or she probably banned a griefer, and that griefer account was later banned from the world by SL |
15:10 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I would not worry about it. It is likely a bug and your ticket is the best way to communicate with LL about the issue. |
15:10 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Okay. |
15:10 |
Carl Metropolitan |
But as it stands now, it sounds like the bug is not causing any problems. |
15:10 |
Gronk Seriman |
SL used to have a problem with ghost avatars hanging around. Haven't seen one for a long time. I'm surprised to hear this. |
15:11 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
It is in new houses. They released it and try to fix all bugs around. |
15:11 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The avatar is listed in her LL Home security system ban list. It is not "physically" at her home. |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
That's correct, right? |
15:12 |
Gronk Seriman |
Ah. |
15:12 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Or have I misunderstood? |
15:13 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I am also not sure if I understand my house well. I am pretty new to it. but that person can set colors, choose which kind of house and such things. |
15:13 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Ah. I see. That person is listed as a user in your system. |
15:13 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Yes |
15:13 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Do you have their name? |
15:14 |
Carl Metropolitan |
They were almost certainly a previous owner of the home. |
15:14 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I think, I remember it... but I can go there and come back |
15:14 |
Carl Metropolitan |
If you don't mind. I can check to see if they are still in the full list of people. |
15:15 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Okay. |
15:15 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I will come back |
15:15 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. While she's getting that information, let's go to the next question. |
15:16 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
I got a message from my rental property the other day which said that my land impact was too high and I needed to delete prims. What is the difference between land impact and prim count? |
15:16 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Welcome back Pippilotte. |
15:16 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Thank you. |
15:17 |
Carl Metropolitan |
There is none. Prims are the old name for what is now called "Land Impact" |
15:17 |
Carl Metropolitan |
You need to delete some objects on your land. |
15:17 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I sent you IM with name Carl. |
15:17 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Before you do that, check to make sure no one else has left anything on your land. |
15:18 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Go to the World menu, select Parcel Details, and from that window click the Objects tab. |
15:18 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Then look down to the middle of the page under "Parcel Land Impact" and see if there are Prims/Land Impact under "Owned by Others" |
15:19 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
I was surprised by this because I thought I was well within my allocated prims. But, I noticed something else... I had linked several object so they were easier to move around. The total prims for the linked items exceeds their individual prim counts, Is that typical? |
15:19 |
Carl Metropolitan |
That is possible under the Land Impact system and is likely your problem if no one else has stuff on your land. |
15:19 |
Carl Metropolitan |
The Land Impact system goes nuts when you link sculpties to mesh objects. |
15:20 |
Carl Metropolitan |
And shows a very high Land Impact count. |
15:20 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Similar issues can happen with Flexiprims linked to mesh objects. |
15:21 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
Good to know... thanks. |
15:22 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Check those two possibilities. |
15:22 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Pippilotte, the name you gave me does not showing up in the master "People" list under the search. I would not worry, but still follow up on your ticket. As far as I can tell that last name there has never been a SL last name. |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It's possible that was a placeholder name used for testing by LL. |
15:23 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Ah, ok. |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Thank you. And thank you Guzz. |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Two interesting questions. |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. Next question? |
15:23 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It does not have to be interesting. I'm easy. |
15:24 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I asked about it in Belli group and nobody had same problem. |
15:25 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I have one more question about building |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is a weird problem. The trouble ticket is the best thing you can do. |
15:25 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. Ask away. |
15:25 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I tried to build scripted curtains with a resize script. |
15:27 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
It works but if I will resize how long curtain is, the stick doesn't move up... so it looks weird. Is it possible to get some script which will also move that stick (root prim). |
15:27 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I am not scripter, I found some free scripts for it. |
15:27 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I am not a scripter either. Is there anyone in the audience who has an idea of what is going on with Pippilotte's build? |
15:29 |
Caissa McCarey |
I'd recommend stopping in to talk with Zen over in SSC, he might be able to explain it. |
15:29 |
Gronk Seriman |
If you place the stick first where you want it, the rest of the curtain may grow from there. |
15:29 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I is okay... I can try to fix in in another way. It was just idea if it is possible to fix it. |
15:30 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I'm sorry, but scripting is my major weak point in SL knowledge. |
15:30 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Tes, it grows, but it grows both up and down... So the stick is after on wrong place. |
15:31 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Have you tried making the curtain the root prim? |
15:31 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
No. |
15:31 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It might be worth a try. |
15:31 |
|
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) nods. |
15:31 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I'm sorry I have no better answer. |
15:31 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I will play with it. |
15:31 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. Time for the next question. Maybe I can be more helpful. |
15:31 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Twisting the prim is practice. |
15:32 |
Gronk Seriman |
Carl, last time I visited the Freebie area in the Train Station, I was pleasantly surprised. The shelves are getting quite full. Lots of work, obviously. Are you still adding items? |
15:32 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I have not in a number of months, but I have more I can add. I will try to get back to that this month |
15:33 |
Carl Metropolitan |
I've had very little time for SL recently I'm afraid. |
15:33 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Train station? |
15:33 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is where the train stops in Oxbridge |
15:33 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is across from the Hall of Avatar Customization |
15:33 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Ah, thank you. |
15:33 |
Carl Metropolitan |
It is home to a lot of freebies. |
15:34 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
Carl, I don't see Parcel Details under the World menu in the SL viewer. Might it be know as something else? |
15:35 |
Gronk Seriman |
And don't forget to visit the historic cupola around behind the Train Station. Freebies so old we don't have permission to move. |
15:35 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. That is what it is called in Firestorm |
15:35 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Look for "About Land" |
15:35 |
Carl Metropolitan |
See if that is still what it is called under the SL viewer |
15:35 |
Carl Metropolitan |
If I remember correctly, it should be the same window. |
15:37 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. Next question? |
15:38 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
Yes it is About Land. Thanks. About the only reason that I haven't switch to Firestorm is I cannot figure out the item for moving buttons to and from the left and bottom button bars. Where is that function in Firestorm? |
15:38 |
Gronk Seriman |
You simply drag and drop them, I think. |
15:39 |
Larky (larkylouz) |
In Firestorm, Avatar Menu > Toolbar buttons |
15:39 |
Larky (larkylouz) |
Tou can then drag and drop to arrange as you wish |
15:39 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
Thanks. |
15:39 |
Larky (larkylouz) |
YW. |
15:39 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Yes. That's correct. You can also bring up a list of all buttons by right clicking on any button anywhere on the screen and selecting "Toolbar Buttons" from the menu. |
15:40 |
Carl Metropolitan |
You can drag and drop less commonly used buttons, or buttons you did not have originally from that window. |
15:40 |
Carl Metropolitan |
You can even clear your toolbars or restore the default set. |
15:41 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. Let's go to the next question. |
15:41 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
BRB |
15:42 |
Gronk Seriman |
What is the Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything? |
15:42 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
42. But what is the question? |
15:43 |
|
Gronk Seriman smirks. |
15:43 |
Carl Metropolitan |
That question is usually a good sign we are out of questions for the afternoon. |
15:43 |
lovejoy2199 |
Chocolate ice cream. |
15:43 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Anyone else with a question? |
15:43 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
I don't have more questions |
15:44 |
Larky (larkylouz) |
Thanks, Carl. Take care, everyone. |
15:44 |
Strandwind |
No questions yet, but thank you all for the answers. |
15:44 |
Cychwynn |
Thank you for your time Carl. |
15:44 |
Gronk Seriman |
I must say I like Firestorm's new button top left: Lighting. It has been fun to play with in dark areas while exploring. |
15:45 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Okay. Since no one seems to have any more questions, we will adjourn a bit early this afternoon. |
15:45 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Thank you all for coming. |
15:45 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Thank you Carl. |
15:45 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Okay, Trying to get some sleep then. |
15:45 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Next Sunday will be the second Sunday of the month and will be the full Q&A With the Deans. |
15:45 |
Gronk Seriman |
Thank you, Carl! |
15:45 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Hold the fort. |
15:45 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Goodnight! |
15:45 |
Strandwind |
Thank you Carl and thanks to all Students. |
15:45 |
Gronk Seriman |
Thank you, Carl! |
15:45 |
Elfbiter Skysmith (elfbiter) |
Be seeing you |
15:45 |
Ṕḭṕṕḭḷṍṫṫḕ Ḷḭṫṫḷḕ Ḋṙḕḁḿḕṙ (pippilotte) |
Good night everyone. |
15:45 |
Guzz (guzzthemeek) |
Thanks. |
15:45 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Off to do that transcript. |
15:46 |
Carl Metropolitan |
Remember the fundraiser at four. |
